The natural world is not only around us, but within us. Whether we are aware or not, we live with nature, are surround by nature, and effected by nature as we influence nature as well. These inseparable ties have been infinitely passed on from generation to generation, from human to human, and land to land: this is the inspiration for the "within-across" series.
And now is part of a series of performative pieces called "within-across", the development is drawn from a study of motion and form in the natural world to discuss this kinship. The entire series serve as moments of inclusion and reflection to bring viewers to their own sense of awe and understanding of their own existence. Addressing the issues of presence, space, and individual experience, the work seeks to co-modify the observer's time sense. The pieces function by slowing observation down to the pace of nature, awaking an individual sense of awe and understanding of our own natural pace and movement. The series is at once an homage to an internal landscape as much as to the external world, demonstrating a transitory state of identity in the face of our everpresent bond to the natural world.
