where do I find my city?
Performence video (short clip)
Where do I find my city? was based upon 11 individual interviews, remapped to represent a personal yet collective concept of "city". This piece seek to capture the unrefined, unpolished, spontaneous nature of the performance, which incorporated individuals who were given scripts and asked to rehearse and perform it within 2 hours.
I rewrote scripts from recordings of interviews conducted with each individual, and given to participants to read. The goal was to present and experiment with the visual and auditory experience of layering these phrases, through the textures of separate human voices, to build the impression of a city landscape. I incorporated hand gestures during the session to direct volume, speaking, and dynamics. It is a response and counterpart to I am my own city.
